The information we collect
Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:
- Contact details — your name, the address where work is needed, your phone number and email address.
- Job details — information about the lock, door or vehicle and the work you are asking us to carry out.
- Payment information — card payments are handled by our payment provider; we do not store full card numbers ourselves.
- Website information — technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you view, collected through cookies (see our Cookie Policy).
- Communications — the content of enquiries, messages and calls you have with us.
How we collect it
We collect this information when you call or message us, complete a callback or enquiry form, browse the website, or when a locksmith attends to carry out work.
How and why we use your data
Under UK data protection law we must have a lawful basis for using your personal data. We rely on the following:
- To provide the service you ask for — arranging and carrying out the locksmith work (basis: performance of a contract, or steps taken at your request before a contract).
- To assign the right local locksmith — our office team takes your details and passes them to the vetted local locksmith who covers your area so they can attend and complete the job (basis: contract and our legitimate interest in delivering the service efficiently).
- To take payment and keep records — processing payment and keeping accounting and tax records (basis: contract and legal obligation).
- To answer enquiries and provide support (basis: legitimate interests).
- To improve and secure our website and services (basis: legitimate interests).
- To send marketing — only where you have asked us to or otherwise consented, and you can opt out at any time (basis: consent).
Who we share it with
We share your information only where necessary, including with:
- the local locksmith or engineer assigned to carry out your job;
- payment processors, IT and hosting providers, and other suppliers who help us run the business, under appropriate confidentiality and data-protection terms;
- professional advisers such as accountants or insurers where reasonably required; and
- authorities or other third parties where we are required to do so by law.
We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
How long we keep it
We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the purposes set out above. Records relating to completed work and payments are generally kept for around six years to meet accounting and tax requirements, while general enquiries are kept for a shorter period. When we no longer need information, we delete or anonymise it securely.
Storing your data
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. We aim to store and process data within the UK or European Economic Area; where any transfer outside these areas is necessary, we put suitable safeguards in place.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your personal data, to have inaccurate data corrected, to ask us to erase or restrict its use, to object to certain processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@locksmithlocal.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk if you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, though we would welcome the chance to put things right first.
Children’s privacy
Our services and website are intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data relating to children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will always appear on this page with a revised date.
